专家简介:
Dr. Karumuri Ashok holds a M.Sc. (Meteorology; 1988), an M.Tech.
(Atmospheric Sciences 1990), and a PhD (Meteorology; 1997) degrees from the
Andhra University, India. He worked as junior scientist at the Indian Institute
of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) during 1994-1999. Subsequently, he worked at the
Frontier Research Center for Climate Change, Japan Marine and Earth Science
Technology (Jamstec) . During 2007 -2009, he was the Chief of Climate Operations
and a Senior Scientist at the APEC Climate Center (APCC), Busan, Korea. Dr.
Ashok moved back to the IITM during November 209, and till July 2014 he was a
Senior Scientist and Deputy Program Director of the Climate Change Research
Centre. Since Aug. 2014, he joined the University centre for the earth and Space
Sciences (UCESS), University of Hyderabad.
Dr. Ashok is an acknowledged expert on tropical Indo-pacific
variability and prediction. Among his works are the discovery of the El Niño
Modoki events, the occurrence of the hitherto unobserved basinwide warming of
tropical pacific in years such as 2009 and 2014 with its own unique impacts, an
MME-based ENSO prediction system, etc. Dr. Ashok has abour 45 publications. As
per Scopus, Dr. Ashok has an h-index of about 20 and citations of about
1900.
