题目:A strategic overview of atmospheric sciences in the US and roles played by NCAR and Unidata
报告:Dr. Clifford Jacobs
摘要:The talk will provide context for atmospheric sciences research and look at the roles NCAR and Unidata both as a paradigm for long term support of research and education activities. Some accomplishments that can be contributed to the global scientific workforce will be highlighted.
题目:GlobalChangeOne: Research Infrastructure for Global Change Studies
报告:Dr. Yuqi Bai
摘要:The talk will introduce the GlobalChangeOne research program led by the CESS center at Tsinghua University. The aim of this research is to establish a research cyberinfrastructure to facilitate the global change studies. The vision of this program, its components and the progress will be presented. In particular, efforts on building CMIP-Online, a new generation of data sharing and analysis environment dedicated for the Coupled Model IntercomparisonProject (CMIP), will be highlighted.

Dr. Jacobs has been at the National Science Foundation (NSF) for 28 years and for 25 years of that time provided oversight to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and its managing organization University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). His oversight responsibilities cover a wide range of topics, such as acquisition of supercomputers, the development of world-class climate and weather models, the initiation and maturation of the delivery of weather products through the Unidata program, coordinated collaborative activities among Federal agencies, participation in the working group to develop NSF clarification of its data policy and the development of requirement for a data management plan.
Dr. Jacobs has represented the geosciences in a variety of NSF studies and initiatives related to high performance computing and information technology, observing facilities, and best practices in the operation and management of facilities.
Within the Geosciences Directorate office, Dr. Jacobs assists with oversight, planning and execution of several complex agency activities, including the operation and management of major facilities and the EarthCube endeavor. Dr. Jacobs co-chairs an internal Directorate working group on Geoinformatics and data and serves a member of GEO facilities working group.
Dr. Yuqi Bai is an associate professor in the Center for Earth System Science at Tsinghua University. Hereceived his Ph.D. in Cartography and GIS from Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003. He finished his postdoctoral training in 2007 in George Mason University, and worked there as a research assistant professor before joining Tsinghua University in August 2011.
His teaching interests includeGIS, remote sensing, geo-information science. His research focuses on the large-scale data exchange, information integration, and system interoperability. His recent research interests include cyberinfrastructure for global change studies, and reproducible GIScienceresearch.
Dr. Bai is an IEEE senior member, a member of the OpenGIS Catalogue Service Standard working group. He used to be the task leader of theGEOSSComponent and Service Registry (CSR), the CEOS WGISS Integrated Catalogue (CWIC). His research leads to the establishment of the GEOSS CSR, CWIC, and many other operational Earth Observation resources sharing and integration systems, which have been widely accessed by researchesand practitioners from more than 120 countries.
