Alan 教授是我校国家外国专家局特聘专家, 1989年获加拿大McGill University博士学位。长年任职于澳大利亚气象局(BoM)和Griffith University进行科研和教学工作。曾任澳大利亚气象局首席科学家(雷达和短临方面)、观测及业务运行中心科学工程室主任等,长期活跃在世界气象组织(WMO)等学术组织,并担任重要职务。Alan教授着力于雷达科学与集合降水短临预报系统的研究,并取得卓著成果。他主持发展的短临预报系统(STEPS/PySTEPS)是世界上最先进的、被广泛应用的集合降水短临预报系统。
报告摘要:
Stochastic simulations of rainfall are essential for various meteorological applications. This talk will review the statistical properties of rainfall in both space and time and motivate why it is necessary to use a scaling framework to describe the way that these properties vary as a function of scale. The fundamental statistical properties of rainfall that need to be reproduced for hydrological applications will be emphasized. The talk will provide examples of how the STEPS algorithms have been adapted with varying levels of abstraction to generate stochastic simulations for a range of applications.
